HOME STUDY PROGRAM

The purpose of this program is to further carry out the mission of NII, which is, to prepare students to take the court interpreting certification exam given by each state (some states don't require certification) and become proficient interpreters in a legal setting,

This one of a kind kit encompasses the same information taught in the classroom by NII and includes:

• Written instructions with each lesson explaining the materials and how to use them. Detailed explanations of the legal process from arrest, booking, arraignment, preliminary hearing, pretrial motions, trial, jury deliberations, verdict, and sentencing.



• Actual court documents to learn from and practice with. You will be able see and use arrest reports, booking information, complaint and/or indictments, court transcripts, sentencing sheets, and probation orders.



• Practice CDs that will bring the student into the courtroom, some through live recordings, to hear what goes on and practice simultaneous interpretation techniques as explained in the instructions. Other CDs can be used for consecutive interpreting practice.



• Vocabulary lists in English with the Spanish equivalent, which an interpreter must learn, memorize and practice in order to be able to function in a court of law.



• Actual documents that will allow the student to practice the consecutive mode of interpretation and learn how to listen, visualize and retain information in one language and then interpret it into the other language.



• Documents to practice sight translation from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English.



• Quizzes at the end of each lesson so the student can measure his/her progress.



• A certificate of completion is granted for each course taken through the HOME STUDY program upon completion of a written exam.



• There is no time limit on how quickly a student can progress through each course, but the courses must be taken in sequential order because each is based on mastery of the previous course.



• Each course costs $429.00 and includes all materials, CDs, shipping, handling, and certificate of completion.
